Squeezing this into a review you can read in under a minute should be a hoot. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is an FPS title by Infinity Ward. If it’s all out modern warfare you’re looking for, look no further. Modern Warfare 2 features a great single-player campaign with fantastic multi-player for those that like that element. With great environments, fantastic characters and a gritty gameplay mechanic, Modern Warfare 2 features run and gun, vehicles and more. This is simply a must buy title for fans of the first-person shooter genre. Needless to say it’s a very macho affair, for those female gamers that wondered.

Here we go again people. It’s movie tie-in time. X-men Origins: Wolverine, which – like the film – covers the Wolverine back-story in some detail, with plenty of gore and over the top violence. If you like fighting combos Wolverine has them in droves, it’s just a shame the game is all so repetitive that it can become a little dull. Dodge, fight, dodge fight, dodge fight. Of course if you love the X-Men that isn’t to say you’re not going to enjoy the repetition, as it does have a few sweet effects. Essentially what we have here is a linear third person hack and slash, but with Wolverine doing some sweet moves. For those that enjoy the X-Men universe and particularly Wolverine, wait a few months until it’s on sale and snap it up because it is pretty cool.

I’ve opted for a bullet review for this title because there’s really not much to say. Junior Board Games is a collection of traditional family games, set in various parts of the home and garden. Games included are Dice, Ludo, Snakes and Ladders (shutes and ladders), battleships and dominoes. Graphically it’s nothing fantastic, sound is monotonous and nothing special. Gameplay is simple, but given the title that’s no surprise since it’s clearly aimed at the younger members of the gaming spectrum. The up side to this title is the price, it’s cheap. So if you’re looking for something to keep the kids amused this ‘might’ do the trick, me, I’d buy the real thing and skip the computer version.

Picked up Gitaroo Man on PS2 for £7 ($13) after being recommended it by a friend. The game places you in the character of a guitar playing space age dude and you have to play along to music. First play completely confused me as it’s not just tapping the buttons in time to the music, but is also a case of moving the thumbstick in the right direction too. Very confusing initially, but when you get into it Gitaroo Man is oh so satisfying to play. I love this game and I want to finish it. It’s quirky, it’s cool and if you like music rhythm games, you’re going to want it, especially if you can find it at a bargain price like I did.

Multi format inline goodness. You can’t help but compare Aggressive Inline to the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series, it has a lot of similarities, some better, some not so. Like the THPS series Aggressive Inline is instantaneous pick up and play fun as well as depth of play and skill development the THPS series is renowned for.

The graphics are sweet and the soundtrack what you’ve come to expect from this type of game. A bonus for the boys (or girls) is the Britney Baby One More Time style female character you can play, mini skirt and all.

All up it isn’t quite as good as the THPS series, but if you’re finding that a little stale and want something similar go for this, it is good in it’s own right so don’t be put off by the obvious comparison. A fun filled skating gem. Try not to bail, you’ll need a mop for all that blood.

Extreme sports…. on a micro scooter?! Surely not? This game didn’t really seem to know just what is was but in essence can be described as an extreme sports adventure mystery title. You play the roadie of a new rock band ‘Flipside’ and it’s your job to rescue each member after they’re mysteriously captured. The graphics look great, colorful, bright and it’s not all too serious. The music is actually pretty good.

The gameplay… ugh. You ride your scooter (which can take the form or gas, electric or rocket powered) around the levels trying to unravel the mystery. Unfortunately what could have been an enjoyable jaunt is marred by clunky controls, the damn scooter can be so difficult to control you’ll end up not caring if the band are in the pits of MTV hell. Buy Aggressive Inline or THPS instead.

Recently released in the UK, Resident Evil Code Veronica X is the 4th game in the series and my favorite one thus far. This is essentially a port of the Dreamcast version, it does add extra bits to the game, including a bit more of what Wesker has been up to (which was totally excluded in the Dreamcast game). And also for the first time; supporting a full 60hz mode which was not included in both the DC & PS2 PAL versions. Although graphically it looks a little dated, it still managed to impress in places. None of the areas are static (as in the previous games), but all have a wonderfully 3D feel to it. Puzzles are quite logical and fair, and there is quite a bit of gameplay to he had. Capcom has brought the entire series exclusively to the Gamecube, & what with a remake and a prequel already on offer together with a brand new Resident Evil game in the works (which incidentally is looking nothing short of breathtaking), the Gamecube is a MUST have console for any RE fans.

Have wanted this for some time and love the Crazy Taxi type genre. Had the first Simpsons game like this (Road Rage) and played it quite a lot. This one has far superior graphics and the gameplay feels much more free roaming. It’s a goal oriented game where you have to do set tasks within time limits etc. This game looks like it has lots to offer and the Simpsons caricatures simply add to the enjoyment. A must have game on the Xbox. Go buy it, you’ll be impressed with the graphics and some of the amusing vehicles you can pick up as you go along!

This game wasn’t my choice to buy but I thought I’d put it in for a try anyway. I’m glad I did as I got hooked pretty much immediately. The graphics are gorgeous, the sound effects and music are great (in game Dolby digital) although there’s no actual talking which is rather odd and the gameplay is absorbing. The basic premise is that you’re a character by the name of Sphinx who is sent on many quests such as recovering lost mystical amulets and items. After playing the game for the first 30 minutes or so I found it to be not overly taxing but still testing enough to keep me interested. The companion who accompanies you at the beginning of the game doesn’t appear to like you much but I have a feeling this might change as the game goes on. Sphinx seems like a very likable character and the story immediately gets your interest. There are quirky levels where you’re in a grand bedroom and are able to change clothes and more and it highlights the interactive nature of the backgrounds. I began getting motion sick playing the game but I think I’ll pick it up again so I can find out a little more about the characters fate.

Take a trip down memory lane with Midway Arcade Treasures. All of the old school favorites are here, including Joust, Paperboy, Root Beer Tapper, Gauntlet and Defender. With a total of 24 classics and a price tag of only $19.99 US (£19.99 UK), this is a great arcade collection for anyone that wants to reminisce about the good old days. The game also contains DVD content including history of the games and interviews with game creators. Midway Arcade Treasures is available on all of the present-gen consoles, but if you own an Xbox and have Live, you can add your scores to the online scoreboards. A fun bit of nostalgia for a reasonable price.
